This interview features, author K. K. Harris. Sit back, relax and fall in love with her romantic writing!
Welcome Kanika! It's a pleasure to have you join us. Before we begin, tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Kanika and I pen under the name K. K. Harris. I am a wife, mother, business owner, and so much more. In my spare time, I am a praise dance coordinator, president of Arkansas Author Connection, and founder of Positive Enlightenment Women’s Ministry.
Wow! That is a full plate! With all that you have going on, what influenced you to make the decision to become a published author?
My love for books will date back to elementary when our class would visit the library. I love reading all sorts of genres. Having grown a bit bored with the same story time after time, I threw caution to the wind and tested the waters with my imagination. Then I realized that I really enjoyed jotting down my thoughts and visions.
What genres do you write?
My books are centered around romance. Although I dabble with urban fiction, street-lit, Christian topics, and more—they all have romance in the mix.
Tell us about your current book project?
My latest release is ‘Blazing These Streets.’ It is the sequel to BLAZE, which is one of my best sellers. This book will tie up any leftover questions the readers of Blaze addressed. Crime, love, betrayal, and secrets will be revealed. This rollercoaster tale will definitely leave the reader with a sense of completion.
Blazing These Streets sounds like fire so readers if you haven't gotten BLAZE...get caught up! While we are discussing your books, what is your upcoming project about? When will it be released?
My next project will be a sequel/spinoff to my Christian romance, ‘The First Lady’s Choice.’ This book will tickle the romantic fancies of the readers while causing the heat to rise to an immeasurable level. This will be an interracial romance to beat all.
Let's learn more about you as a writer. When it comes to writing, are you a morning person or a night owl?
It depends on my mind honestly. LOL… Four to five in morning, I have the best flow because my family is asleep. No distractions, just me and the music that sets the mood.
Tell us a unique writing habit that you have.
My habit is writing from the hip. Every once in a while, I will create a timeline or an outline but I hardly ever stick to it.
If you were to write a book about yourself what would you name it? Why?
I just finished a book about some parts of my life and it is called ‘Never Enough.’ I have battled with depression since my early teens. I have participated in some things that I am not proud of because of those issues. Family issues and other personal issues played a major part in my life then and now. I am still undecided whether the book will be released.
What makes your writing stand apart from other authors?
I can truly say that I love—LOVE. The experiences I write about are deeply heartfelt with some realism mixed with my imagination. Also, I create my own book covers giving it a personal touch on the inside and the outside.
What are some of your other inspirations for your writing career?
I truly enjoy being my own boss. I love creating and I love the responses I get from the readers. The positive reviews inspire me to keep creating love stories.
Name your top 5 favorite books by indie authors. Why are they your faves?
Any books by EJ Brock
All titles by Sylvia Hubbard
Love Drug, Blaze, and Indecent Pawn by K. K. Harris (I love re-reading my own books, can’t lie. These are my faves.)
I hear that! Be your own favorite author! But speaking of your faves, would you like to collaborate with other authors on a book project?
Of course, I am always open to try new things.
Outside of writing, what are your favorite past times?
Music, reading, dancing, and movies are my favorite past times. I also love to bake. Another passion I have is creating random book covers.
Tell us one thing about you that is a little known fact.
I am extremely spoiled. Blame my husband, although people that know us already know.
What is one myth about being a published author that you learned and would like to share?
So many think that it is an easy job and selling books will make you rich, not true. I have learned that you must spend money to make money.
What is one lesson you’ve learned since becoming a published author?
It takes an open-mind, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn new things to be successful in this business.
Kanika it has been a pleasure to interview you, and we look forward to your future works. Please connect with the author and check out her books and fall in love with her romantic writing!

BLAZING THESE STREETS
“Baby breathe, it’s going to be all right.” Blaze consoled.
They had just arrived at the restaurant of Kay’s choosing.
“I don’t know why I am so nervous.”
“Me either, what aren’t you telling me?”
“Originally, I invited her over to our house for dinner. After a talk with Nadia and Tiff, they convinced me that probably wasn’t such a wise idea.”
“…” Blaze was silent for a minute before he took a deep breath.
“I know what you are going to say.”
“And what is that love?”
“Kay, what were you thinking inviting that woman to our house?” Kay tried her hand at impersonating Blaze.
“Actually no, that wasn’t what I was thinking at all.” Blaze chuckled at her attempt at reading him. “I was going to say, I understand your hidden need to show her that you made it without her. It’s natural to want the world to know that they were wrong about you, me, and the thought of an us. No one believed we would survive the tests that center on a marriage; we are living proof that it can be done. No matter how different we are on paper, when it boils down to it, we are two people in love with one another.”
“Aww isn’t that sweet. Just precious,” they heard Geneva speak sarcastically.
“Oh hey mom,” Kay pulled away from Blaze to greet her mother.
“Hey yourself,” was her snide reply. “By all means, don’t let me interrupt. After all you invited me, no need to acknowledge your guest.”
“Mom, you remember Nate don’t you?”
“I thought his name was something else, it starts with a b doesn’t it?”
“Yes ma’am that is my nick name if you must. It’s nice to see you again Miss Geneva.”
“Street name you mean,” she remarked.
“One in the same actually,” Blaze did not bow down.
“How is work mom?” Kay cut in trying to alleviate some of the tension.
“It was work, I’m sure you have forgotten what that is like.”
“Why would you say that?”
“Don’t play stupid with me; I know you are well off. I figured you couldn’t wait to show off that nice big house of yours. What’s the matter, did your man forbid you from having your mother over to his house?”
“Actually no, that’s not the reason I changed the plans at the last minute. I realized I didn’t want to invite evil-ill intent type of folks inside of our house. Those type of people can’t taint our house where we live with our family just in case remnants will linger in the air.” Kay said shocking the mess out of Blaze and Geneva. It was clear no one expected her to check her mother in that fashion.
“I don’t have to sit here and take a verbal lashing from you little girl, remember I gave birth to you not the other way around. You chose to throw the life I gave to you away for this imitation business man.” Geneva made a nasty noise with her throat before centering her hateful gaze on Blaze. “He ain’t nothing but a common thug; a street hoodlum up to no good just like the rest of them.”
“Now you wait just a minute, mother. I will not let you disrespect my husband, MY HUSBAND. He has never disrespected you or me, so you can take your hateful attitude somewhere else. The only reason I asked to meet with you is to find out who my father really is and how do I find him?”
“Why would you want to know anything about that man?”
“Because I have a right to know who I came from,” Kay said with confusion written all over her face. She couldn’t figure out why her mother was so angry and hateful.
“You are gluten for no good men, I see.”
“Are you avoiding the question because you don’t know?”
“I’ll have you know little girl, I didn’t and still don’t sleep around.”
“Then just answer the question, there is no need for all this foolery. Once you give me the information I seek, I will never bother you again.”
“Be careful what you ask for, you may not find favor in the results.” Geneva said cryptically. “His name is William Gable. William Gable Sr., the faithful pastor of Mt. Pleasant Grove Baptist Church is your dead-beat father.”
“Good luck and good riddance,” Geneva smirked as if it were a private joke that only she was privy to before turning to leave.
Blaze instantly tensed up at the acknowledgement of the name. Kay was shocked and appalled that the man lived nearby all this time. What if he once upon a time wanted a relationship with Kay but Geneva was blocking? She heard the name before but hadn’t met him personally. There was a lot of prep work that needed to be laid. Kay wasn’t even sad to see her mother walk away, she was too busy planning.
