This interview features, author Vanessa Harris Greenlee. Sit back, relax and let's find out about this inspirational romantic!

Welcome Vanessa! Why don't we start with finding out more about who Vanessa is? Tell us a little about yourself.

I grew up in a small town in western Kentucky. I have been writing most of my life. I began writing as a bored kid, stuck in the house because my mother worked. The first thing I wrote was alternate endings to different soap stories.

Wow! Alternate endings to soap stories! That's very different. Is that what led you into becoming a published author?

Actually, I started a book as a contest for BET. When I saw the requirements, I let the spirit of self-discouragement get the best of me and I put it away. About three years later, a friend of mine encouraged me to finish it and get it published. After searching for several publishers, I decided to go the self-publishing route.

It's a blessing to have good friends in your corner. Since you've transitioned into novels, what genres do you write or wish to write?

Inspirational romance and romantic thrillers

When it comes to writing, are you a morning person or a night owl?

I don’t have any specific time of day that I write. I tend to write when the moment hits me.

That actually brings me to my next question. Can you tell us a unique writing habit that you have?

I people watch.

Let's discuss your work for a bit. Tell us about your current book project.

I recently released a compilation of short stories and poems called Love Secrets and Lies. Some of these poems were written some time ago and I had to revamp them to fit my life now. The special thing about this book is the last story in the book entitled, Love Aint Nothing but a Four Letter Word was started by my mother, but she didn’t get a chance to finish it.

Speaking of fitting your life, if you were to write a book about yourself what would you name it? Why?

Another Day’s Journey. Because so many things have happened in my life, that I have learned to take things one day at a time.

What is your upcoming project about? When will it be released?

I am currently working on a number of projects, including the next installment in the Forgiveness Series entitled Tied to My Soul.

Nothing could beat being able to essentially co-author a book with your mother, however, would you like to collaborate with other authors on a book project?

Yes, I would love to do a collaboration.

What are some of your other aspirations for your writing career?

I would like to turn a few of my books into screenplays.

What makes your writing stand apart from other authors?

I tend to deal with a lot of controversial topics especially in the church that a lot of people shy away from.

Outside of writing, what are your favorite past times?

Sewing and baking

Tell us one thing about you that is a little known fact.

I was once a costume designer for a production of The Wiz in college.

Name your top 5 favorite books by indie authors. Why are they your faves?

I really haven’t read too many indie authors, but of the ones that I have, I would have to choose: Testament of Grace by Dr. Brian Clardy. I loved the sermons and encouraging words. Author Vulyncia Poindexter and her Timeless series, both books of poetry are real and raw and they deal with real life situations. Untamed and the Never Again No More series. I am in love with bad boy Pooch Smalls; and lastly Pastor Marvin Barner’s, Surviving the Games. What I love about this book is that deals with real life issues when you are searching for a Godly relationship.

What is one lesson you’ve learned since becoming a published author?

Strangers will be the most supportive of your work.

What is one myth about being a published author that you learned and would like to share?

If you publish a book, you will become an instant celebrity.

Vanessa it has been a pleasure to interview you, and we look forward to your future works. Please connect with the author and check out her books!
