Welcome to Untamed Publishing's Author Interviews! As a company that caters to the self-published author, we want to highlight and support indie authors. There is a vast array of talent amongst us, and here's the opportunity to connect the readers to their next favorite author!

This interview features, author Katy Naturalista. Sit back, relax and let's find out all about her and her poetry!

Welcome Katy! Before we begin, tell us a little about yourself.

I am a newly published author in the world of poetry. This is my first book! My pseudonym Katy Naturalista is derived from my nickname and hair. LOL! My nickname is Kate or Katydid. My big fro is where Naturalista came about. My birthday is May 5th. Lavender is my favorite scent, and I love to bake.

What genres do you write or wish to write?

I typically write in the genre of love and romance.

Alright now Katy Naturalista, love and romance! Why did you make the decision to become a published author?

My King and I were discussing life goals. He came up with the idea of me publishing my poetry that I’ve been writing over the years. He helped me through the process.

You better go King! I love it when I hear of partners speaking life into their mate. Speaking of life, if you were to write a book about yourself what would you name it? Why?

Not Grown, But Forever Growing. I would name the book this because, although I am an adult I feel like I am always learning something new every day. I experience new things, learn new ways of doing daily routines. My growth is constantly going and I don’t want it to stop.

Absolutely! While we're on projects, please tell us about your current book project?

This book is a compilation of romantic poetry based on life experience. It takes you through the up’s and downs of relationships and love.

What is your upcoming project about? When will it be released?

My next book is still in the workings. My plan is to complete a poetic trilogy. I don’t have a release date yet, but I will announce it in few months.

We'll look forward to it as well. What are some of your other aspirations for your writing career?

I would love to go into play writing. I think it’d be interesting to bring the world of spoken word to the stage in the form of a play.

What makes your writing stand apart from other authors?

My use of metaphors and abstract terms. I’m not very blunt in my poems, I tell stories. I think that paints more of a vivid picture for my audience.

To tell stories, you have to be in a certain mind frame so when it comes to writing, are you a morning person or a night owl?

I am a night owl. I always feel like I can think clearly at night time.

Tell us a unique writing habit that you have.

I always listen to music when I write. I sometimes write my poems in pieces. For instance, I’ll come up with one part one day, then maybe a week or two I will complete the rest.

Let's switch gears a bit and pick some of your interest in writers. Name your top 5 favorite books by indie authors. Why are they your faves?

I only have 4 that I would say are my favorites. Two books are by the same author.

Woman Habits – Shanel Cooper-Sykes

  • I love how she created a guide of being a true lady. The hints, tips, and gems in this book are amazing.

  • Emotional Wellness/ Being in Love—OSHO

These are two different books by OSHO I love his work, because he teaches patience, loving freely, and controlling yourself. From both books, I learned to love freely, and how to find inner peace.

Your Life on Purpose—Matthew McKay, John P. Forsyth, and Georg H. Elfert

  • This book is great because it teaches you to live your life to the fullest and not to take things for granted. It also comes with a workbook so you can document how you would handle situations.

Would you like to collaborate with other authors on a book project?

As my career goes, there may be an opportunity for collaboration. It’s not something I’m looking to do soon, but maybe later down the line.

Outside of writing, what are your favorite past times?

I love being with my friends and family. It’s such an energizer. They bring so much light into my life. Just spending time with them and having fun. I couldn’t ask for more.

Tell us one thing about you that is a little-known fact.

I am a big fan of music. I love all types of music. My favorite artist is Childish Gambino. I loved his show Atlanta. I literally have every single piece of music he has released. Just so everyone knows he is at the top of my playlist now. LOL.

I know this is your first release, but what is one lesson you’ve learned since becoming a published author?

It’s truly a lot of work. I’ve learned patience is key. It’s hard not to be overly excited when publishing your first book. You truly cannot rush the process.

What is one myth about being a published author that you learned and would like to share?

That your book will sell itself. That is totally not true. Being a new author and new to the scene. I have worked very hard trying to promote and market my book. It takes time to get it out there, but do not stop. I can see my hard work paying off, but believe me it’s not easy getting there.

Katy Naturalista it has been a pleasure to interview you, and we look forward to your future works. Please connect with the author and check out her book! Please check out her Instagram where she posts videos of herself slaying her poetic words!
