What an honor it is to have this poetess and author in the UP HOT SEAT! She is a dynamic woman of God who leads by her powerful words and her exemplary life. LaDonna and I have coordinated together in the past through her Planting Positive Seeds conference and my Walk Like MADD programs, therefore it is an honor to be able to interview her and learn more about her and her works.

Welcome to UP author interviews, LaDonna! Before we begin, please tell us a little about yourself.

Hello! I am LaDonna Marie and I am an Multi-Award winning international & Bestselling Author, Poet, Life Coach and Speaker who loves to empower others.

Yes, you do love to empower others. I, for one, can surely attest to this. Is that the reason you decided to become a published author?

Actually, yes. What made me make the decision to be a published author is the day in 9th grade when I met Maya Angelou and in talking with her I expressed how her legacy left and impact on others who read her works, as a teen I wanted that for myself. It has been an amazing journey from that day until I published my first work.

I am positive meeting Maya Angelou was an amazing experience. I can see why you have been so inspired through that interaction. Besides poetry, what genres do you write or wish to write?

The genres, I write in are Self-help, Christian, Realistic, Romance, Children’s Lit, and of course Poetry.

Alright LaDonna, let's get into learning more about you as an author. When it comes to writing, are you a morning person or a night owl?

I am actually both.

Tell us a unique writing habit that you have.

When I am writing on multiple topics, I usually divide up each topic into folders, so that I don’t stop the flow of my writing.

What are some of your other aspirations for your writing career?

I want to step in to the area of writing a full length novel. I think it will be a challenge that I would like to work on completing.

Speaking of writing a novel, I'm interested to know, if you were to write a book about yourself what would you name it? Why?

Wow, if I were to write a book about myself it would be called Discovering the Real Me. I would use this title because I love to talk about a time when my life when it was hard to be who I truly was and through discovering the real me show how I evolved.

Since we are discussing possible works, let's hear more about your published works. Tell us about your current book project?

My latest release and best seller is Larry the Alligator: Makes Friends. It is a book that helps children that may have a hard time making friends, to discover some new ways to be encouraged.

How wonderful! We must start as children learning to cope with obstacles so that we can be productive and positive adults. I commend you on creating a children's book that tackles one of the main social concerns for children. This brings me to my next question. What makes your writing stand apart from other authors?

I find that my writings are centered at the core with compassion. I have found that many readers can identify with many topics that I write on, and find a way to encourage themselves, knowing that they can overcome obstacles.

What is your upcoming project about? When will it be released?

I am working on my second devotional that will be coming out this Fall.

Would you like to collaborate with other authors on a book project?

Yes, I love to collaborate!

LaDonna, when you're taking a break and relaxing from the norm, who are some indie authors whose works you enjoy?

Author Untamed, Author Sheree Darien, Author Kisha Townsend, Author TK Ware, and G.P.A. aka The Greatest Poet Alive.

Ok. Ok. WooHoo! Untamed made the LaDonna list of faves! LOL! Honestly, I am truly honored. That means the world coming from you. Now, let's learn a little bit more about you, LaDonna. Outside of writing, what are your favorite past times?

My favorite past times are skating and bowling.

Tell us one thing about you that is a little known fact.

A little known fact is that I am very quiet and reserved.

What is one lesson you’ve learned since becoming a published author?

I have learned to be confident about your books when you are discussing them with others.

Lastly, what is one myth about being a published author that you learned and would like to share?

I have learned that the life of an author is never done, when it comes to promoting and marketing your work.

LaDonna, it has truly been a pleasure to interview you, and we look forward to your future works. Please connect with the author and pick up your copy of her last release, Larry the Alligator: Makes Friends for a special child in your life!
