Girl, Have you read 'The Land of the Free?' by L. R. Jackson

GIRL, HAVE YOU READ? You know a book is good when you hear that sentence! That's exactly what we are saying at UP! Have you read "The Land of the Free?" by L. R. Jackson? If not, what are you waiting for? Check out our official review and more information on the book and the author below!

If you are highly sensitive about race, religion, sexuality, etc. DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. This book touches on the many stereo-types there are in America. Although these are made up characters and this is a work of fiction, there are actual people who share the same views as the characters do in this story. We live in a diverse world. A world where people come from different backgrounds, have different views, and different skin tones. That’s why it’s supposed to be the land of the free isn’t it? A land where everyone is supposed to have endless opportunities, a land where you’re supposed to be free to live however you want, and free to express your opinion without judgement? America is called the Land of the Free but it only seems to apply to those who adhere to the standards that are considered acceptable to society. What happens when you’re discriminated against because of the color of your skin? Or you’re criticized because you practice a different religion? What if you’re in a same sex relationship? Are you seen as an American then? Or are you an outsider in a country that isn’t really free at all?

UP OFFICIAL REVIEW

We would love to start this out with our tag line phrase…Girl, have you read, but “girl” is too puny of a word for this book. We have to say “America” have you read? In fact, “World” have you read? This book teeters on the very essence of our being and forces us to review our moral compass. Mark, Amy, Dylan, Ireland, Austin, Sheldon, and Eva. Once you meet these characters, you will realize one very important factor, these are not just characters. Eva could be your big sister; Mark, your co-worker, Sheldon, your husband, and Ireland, your daughter’s best friend. The story that encompasses these two families forces the reader to take a hard look at your life, your upbringing, your morals, your thoughts, your beliefs and most importantly, your heart. Life has a way of making you address the tough issues with a realness and a reality that can be absolutely unfathomable. That is what happened to the characters in this novel. A gamut of societal subjects both within racial and outside of racial divides are toppled within these pages. From the prologue, you are whisked into this whirlwind story that spirals so far into your darkest fears and deepest secrets that it catapults your reader nerve endings into the stratosphere. One thing is for sure once you read this book, you will not be the same. If we could give a book a higher rating than 5 stars we would!

Overall rating- 5 stars
