There is a vast array of talent amongst us, and here's the opportunity to connect the readers to their next favorite author! This year we have an all new round of writers from all genres so let's saddle in and get ready for an Untamable 2018!
This interview features, Author Julie Jewels. Let's embrace the importance of loving ourselves despite our tribulations through the healing words of Julie!
Hi Julie! Welcome to the UP HOT SEAT! Before we begin, please tell us a little about yourself.
I am from a small town in the Midwest. I am a Navy Veteran, poet, author, photographer, Reiki Jin Kei Do Level 2 Energy Healer, Nia Blue Belt, Green Belt and White Belt Dance Instructor.
Let me first say, thank you for your service! Wow! With such a gamut of pastimes, please tell us why did you made the decision to become a published author?
Several of my friends testified on Capitol Hill about Military Sexual Trauma. I decided to publish my journal to bring awareness to Military Sexual Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Then as I continued to heal, I published my book The Journey Back to Myself: A Book of Healing Poetry
I commend you for having the courage to tell your story to help others. I also commend your friends as well, for having the courage to speak out about their personal traumas. As the #MeToo movement increases, in this time, it is important for victims to know they are not alone and learn to love themselves through it. With that said, let's dive into your work. Tell us about your current book project? My current book project is getting the word out about "The Journey Back to Myself: A Book of Healing Poetry".
What was the motivation/inspiration behind your latest release?
As I continued my journey in Nia, I found that I can love my body, that my body is a safe place for me to be and found that I can write amazing poetry that is healing. My poetry is my healing journey and has helped other people to know that they are not alone in this journey.
You have a very interesting book title. Can you please share the idea behind the title?
The idea behind my book title is my journey in healing. From the time I took Nia White Belt, I started writing poetry. I wrote a poem about every day for two years.
Let's learn a bit more about your writing and you as an author. What genres do you write or wish to write?
True Stories and Poetry
When it comes to writing, are you a morning person or a night owl?
Have you written any other books about yourself?
I have written two books about myself. The other one is titled, The Boulders in My Life That Shaped My Journey.
Are you interested in performing spoken word or making a spoken word CD?
Would you like to collaborate with other authors on a book project?
What makes your writing stand apart from other authors?
My writing is my own personal journey in healing from multiple sexual assaults, emotional abuse, retaliation, and Post Traumatic Stress. I share my journey freely and openly to be able to help others.
Now let's talk a little about you, Julie. What is one lesson you’ve learned since becoming a published author?
If you are not a big name, no one is going to pay attention to you.
Outside of writing, what are your favorite pastimes?
Listening to music, writing, spending time with friends, dancing Nia, and doing Reiki Jin Kei Do
Tell us one thing about you that is a little known fact.
I love to spend time being alone out in nature walking, listening to birds and spending time listening to healing music.
Julie, thank you, for interviewing with UP! Please connect with the author and check out her book, "The Journey Back to Myself: A Book of Healing Poetry".
