Hi Kisha! Let me first say it is an honor to have you interview with UP. Welcome to the UP HOT SEAT! Before we begin, please tell us a little about yourself.
First, I am a woman of God and I walk my journey with his approval and also knowing that I am human, so mistakes will come. I am a wife and a mother, an author, writer, an inspirational speaker; certified herbalist and coach, awareness educator, mentor, motivator, and a serial entrepreneur. I have a passion for and dedicated to helping people live an abundant life, mind, body, soul, and spirit.
I am also very spiritual, and I believe in the power of positive and negative energy. I believe that you can speak life into something and with the same tongue, create darkness. I believe that who you think you are, you will become overtime and who you are will be what/who you will attract. Overall, I am just a lover of life and all things positive. A soul sista, who many have called a flower child.
That is a lot on your plate. With all that you have to fulfill why did you make the decision to become a published author?
I believe that my love for writing, reading, and educating people led me to becoming a published author. It wasn’t easy. I was afraid, but I closed my eyes and walked out on faith.
What genres do you write or wish to write?
Erotica, Romance and Inspirational
Now with those genres I've found that most people find their muse at night. Is the same true for you? Are you a night owl?
I am most certainly a night owl; however, a story will come to me at any time of the day.
I had a feeling you were! So at night when you get your fire to write please tell us a unique writing habit that you have.
Hmmm, let’s see. Sometimes, I will do a loud jam session to my favorite artist in the dark with my speaker that have a dancing light effect.
I can completely see that. (Readers, I am asking for reason, hint). Now, let's discuss your current work. Tell us about your current book project?
My latest release is a re-release of my erotic page turner, Just a Little Bit More an Erotic Elixir.
Yesss! I'm telling you all I have read it and you need to get into that one. One word: Nate. Okay, so before I get off into a tangent can you tell us your upcoming projects?
Current book project(s) The Spices of Life and Forbidden Addictions.
Ooh, I can tell from the titles alone they will be hot! Having said this, what do feel makes your writing stand apart from other authors?
Hmmm. That’s a tough one, because writing is my passion and I am grateful to be able share my gift with the world. I simply stay true to myself, my craft and to my audience. I never try to compete with or overshadow my fellow author’s talent. I am very helpful, sincere, and honest. I do it, because I love it.
Personally, I can attest that you are a beacon of light to all around, and you do everything out of love. That's the beauty of you as an artist and as a person. That in of itself, sets you apart. If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it? Why?
In Her Light: The Positive Journey beyond the Tears, Struggle and Darkness. My reason would be to motivate, educate and inspire others that it is possible to go from darkness to light. That each day, gives you another day to give it a different try and to always know the importance of self-love. If you don’t know love, you can’t accept it, give advice on it, or spread it.
Would you like to collaborate with other authors on a book project?
Of course. I welcome the opportunity.
What are some of your other aspirations for your writing career?
I aspire to one day have an impactful career as a writer to which I can simply provide EduTainment to my readers, so that they will walk away with an experience and it be so much more than a good read.
EduTainment...nice! I love it! Now let's get to know a little more about you. Name your top 5 favorite books by indie authors. Why are they your faves?
Eloquent Love Notes, Timeless Clock, Poetic Compilations of the Heart, Mind and Soul, The Renaissance Woman and the Never Again No More series. If I can sneak another in, it would be Love and Ink, I love the poem Colorless View. I always gravitate to poetry, my first love and l love reading books that captures me, inspires me, makes me think, smile and proud of the authors behind it all.
Outside of writing, what are your favorite past times?
Music, reading, spending time with my family. crafting, having fun organically. Being a lover life, intimacy and relationship coach. My passion for helping others is real.
Tell us one thing about you that is a little known fact.
I am quiet and shy, although my passion speaks loudly.
What is one lesson you’ve learned since becoming a published author?
Wow. Trust your gut. READ the fine print. Do your research and recruit the best to assist you on your journey. Trust is key. Choose those who will put the same passion into your work as the would their own. Learn from your mistakes and let them help you grow. Never let a bad experience leave you bitter. It can sometimes give you writer’s block.
What is one myth about being a published author that you learned and would like to share?
Many believing that you are an instant millionaire or rolling in dough. People often think that because you are a published author that you don’t have or need a regular 9-5. Also, that being an author/writer is easy. There is so much that goes into being an author. Being an author/writer, is a gift and if you are not passionate about it and you go into it for the wrong reasons, you may be in for a big surprise and a possible disappointment. If it’s your passion, honor your passion and hone your craft, stay in your lane and do it for the love of the art and not for fame or fortune. Don’t compete with others, always be true to yourself and help your fellow authors. Remember, each one teach one. Also, have thick skin and find your niche audience; cater to them and write your ass off! Remember, like anything in life, you can’t please everyone.
Kisha, it was a pleasure to interview you. We look forward to your future works! Please connect with the author and check out her book, "Just a Little Bit More An Erotic Elixir".
