This year we have an all new round of writers from all genres so let's saddle in and have an Untamable 2018!

This interview features, Author Mrz. Nikki J. Let's get to know this New and On the Rise author of Urban Street Romance Literature!

Hi Nikki J! Let me first say it is an honor to have you interview with UP. Welcome to the UP HOT SEAT! Before we begin, please tell us a little about yourself.

I am a brand new author. I've been writing for about 6 months. I wrote my first book on my iPad. I love people. I'm silly. And I still like to watch cartoons from time to time. I Love Despicable Me and Monsters Inc. (I'm still a big kid).

Congratulations! Let me just say welcome to the world of the literary industry, and we wish you much success on your literary journey! That leads to the perfect question. Why did you decide to become a published author?

I started off writing just out of boredom honestly. I have always been someone who like to journal. But I would never call myself a writer. I came up with these characters in my head and decided to explore it. And after I wrote about 16 chapters. I let a friend of mine read it and she fell in love with it. So I continued to write. I took that leap of faith. And here we are today.

That is a very different answer. Usually, most writers have been writing for years or even since they were young children. It's refreshing to see a new writer and awesome that you took the plunge into publishing. I know that you're new, but please tell us what genre you write.

I write Urban street romance. I'd like to explore Erotica next.

When it comes to writing, are you a morning person or a night owl?

I'm actually neither. I just write. I don't have a set time. When an idea hits me, I write it down.

This may be a bit premature because you're still getting your feet wet in the publishing industry, but what is a unique writing habit that you've developed?

No real writing habits as of yet. I'm still a rookie at this new found talent.

We'll get to know a little more about you as an author, but right now, let's dive into your work. What is your current book project?

“Too Real for Fake Love”. It's about two sets of friends that are looking for real love but seems to be having trouble finding it. But they travel abroad and their paths cross. And once they think that they have found their soulmate all hell breaks loose. Kidnapping. Lies. Nervous breakdowns. Deceit. Murder. Betrayal.

Sounds juicy! I have downloaded my eBook copy and I'm ready to read now! Now that you have one book under your belt. What is your upcoming project about? When will it be released?

I'm writing a trilogy. It’ll be two more parts to “Too Real for Fake Love”. Part 2 will be out early this year and part 3 will be out early to mid-summer.

What are some of your other aspirations for your writing career? I want to take my readers into another world when they read my books. We all have read books that made you lose track of time. That's what I want for my readers. I also want to leave a legacy behind for my children. I want to inspire not just them but others as well to write. I want my books to be on Oprah's reading list.

Now let's get to know a little about Nikki as an author. What makes your writing stand apart from other authors?

Honestly, I don't know how to really answer that question since this is my first book. But what I can say is that my imagination is vivid. And I love to write what feels real to me. I know how to draw people in. I can't say that that makes me different from other authors but that's what I believe.

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it and why?

"I am not my skin". As a child growing up I was teased about being dark in complexion. So that's why I would call it that.

That's an awesome idea. As a parent to a brown skin beauty, I applaud you for considering writing about that adversity. I certainly encourage you to write that book in the future. Now, would you ever like to collaborate with other author(s)?

Yes in the future I'd love to do a collaboration. Now with who I honestly can't say but yes I'd love too. It would be so epic.

Switching gears for a little bit, we want to learn more about you Nikki. Tell the readers who are your top five authors and why? Top five favorite indie authors... Wow ... let's see...Ashley and JaQuavis, Wahida Clark, Deja Joy King, Nikki Turner, and Jordan Belcher. I've read thousands of books over the last 20 plus years and they kept my focus. They all have their own unique style of writing. They pull you in and never drop you. You want more and more.

Outside of writing, what are your favorite past times?

I'm a music lover. I love just about all genres of music. I'm a makeup junky (lol). And I LOVE D.I.Y projects. I watch HGTV 24/7 (lol).

Tell us one thing about you that is a little-known fact.

That I don't watch scary movies (lol).

What is one lesson you’ve learned since becoming a published author?

You can't lose sight of your goal. You have to stay focused and determined. Pay attention. Edit. Edit. Edit (lol). Stay organized and don't stop writing. People can be very critical but also very supportive.

What is one myth about being a published author that you learned and would like to share?

That you have to put in the work. Promote. And stay encouraged.

Mrz. Nikki J, it was a pleasure to interview you. We look forward to your future works! Please connect with the author and check out her book, “Too Real for Fake Love”.
