Welcome K. Reshay to the UP HOT SEAT! It's an honor to interview with you. Before we begin, please tell us a little about yourself.
I began writing at the age of eight in her hometown of Starkville, Mississippi. I have since written numerous short stories, poems and I regularly perform my work in spoken-word venues. In 2011, I founded Me Time Book Club (www.metimebookclub1.weebly.com), which is dedicated to providing a calm, supportive space for women readers. I currently live in Alabama with my husband and two sons.
Why did you make the decision to become a published author?
I have always enjoyed writing. I used to write short stories and characters all of the time. In 2016, I came across the synopsis for Appearances and decided that it was time to see if I could take my writing to a different level.
We'll go back to some fun facts, but since you've mentioned your novel, Appearances, why don't we dive right into it. Tell us about your current book project.
My current book Appearances Too expounds on a continuation of my debut novel Appearances. It explores in detail more information about the characters in the past and present.
What is your upcoming project about? When will it be released?
My upcoming novel is Appearances Too Mask Off. This book is going to be the final reveal in the Appearances series. It is set to be released in the early fall of 2018.
Alright now! Mask Off! Before we take our masks off, let's find out a little about you as an author. What genres do you write or wish to write?
My first series is drama based. The next book that I write after the series is complete will be comedy. I can write about anything.
When it comes to writing, are you a morning person or a night owl?
I’m definitely both. I keep a notepad with me and I write whenever I get a few moments to myself.
Tell us a unique writing habit that you have.
I absolutely love music. I listen to music as I write. The words are so inspiring once I have an idea for a chapter.
What makes your writing stand apart from other authors?
My writing is smooth. I get the reader where they need to be by leaving just enough for them to want more. I myself am an avid reader and I find myself skipping through too many details so I incorporate that in my writing, as well.
What are some of your other aspirations for your writing career?
I’d actually like to land a publishing deal and write full time. I’d like to attend book events and workshops. I would love to see one of my books on the big screen and see a book of mine in a bookstore.
Would you like to collaborate with other authors on a book project?
I’d love to collaborate. When creative minds get together, the possibilities are endless.
I hear that! I love the diversity in your aspirations. So if you were to write a book about yourself what would you name it? Why?
My book would be entitled, “Follow God’s Gift.” I chose this name because I run into so many people that haven’t discovered their gift. I knew as a young child that I was creative and could write. So I always try to encourage people to explore what they are good at effortlessly. That’s their God given gift.
This is the part I like to call fun facts. So let's learn some fun facts about K. Reshay, so the readers can get a personal feel for you. Please share with us your favorite book by an indie author. Why is it your fave?
My top book is Corporate America by Blacc Topp. This is my favorite because it depicts a dynamic storyline full of twists and revenge.
Yes! I am a fan of Blacc Topp books as well, so I give you a thumbs up on that choice. Outside of writing, what are your favorite past times?
I enjoy traveling. I also am a certified education instructor. I enjoy giving back to the community with literacy and financial education.
Tell us one thing about you that is a little known fact.
I am extremely shy. It take me a few minutes to get comfortable to speak in front of people.
As a newer author, can you share some of your knowledge with aspiring authors? What is one lesson you’ve learned since becoming a published author?
One lesson I’ve learned is that networking
